Basic configuration course on Automatic Salinity forecasting and Water Quality Monitoring system (ASWQM)
In August 20-24, 2019, CEFD, cooperating with Stitching Deltares, the Netherlands as technical support, has successfully implemented a basic configuration course on Automatic Salinity forecasting and Water Quality Monitoring system (ASWQM) for Ben Tre and Tra Vinh provinces, Mekong Delta. This activity is within the framework of the Mekong Delta Climate Change Adaptation Project (AMD) in Ben Tre and Tra Vinh provinces, Vietnam, funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). Ms. Tran Thanh Huyen and Ms. Nguyen Kim Ngoc Anh from CEFD has supported Mr. Bas Stengs from Deltares for installing the Salinity Forecasting System on the Delft-FEWS platform (FEWS-AMD) and 5 days of training the Delft-FEWS-AMD Knowledge Platform.

The training course has been conducted successfully with the participation of more than 50 participants from two provinces, including technicians, IT specialists, management officials and environmental and water quality specialists. During the course, participants expressed interests in the salinity intrusion forecasting platform on FEWS and were trained on how to operate and configure the FEWS-AMD system. The training is also a valuable opportunity for the consultant and the two provinces to share knowledge and to discuss issues of FEWS-AMD system development, expansion and improvement. After the course, the participants are assured that they will be able to operate the system, as well as have the capacity to configure and modify additional monitoring stations that are and will be operational in the two provinces.
The long-term objective of FEWS-AMD is to support Ben Tre and Tra Vinh provinces in forecasting, warning saline intrusion, supporting management groups in decision making, supporting irrigation agencies (gate operators) and support farmer communities in agriculture, cultivation, aquaculture, etc. Forecast and warning products from FEWS-AMD are widely disseminated to the community through such information channels as web-platform, mobile apps and SMS.
