International Expert Seminar on Water Use – Waste and Wastewater Technologies and IFAT2019
During the two weeks from 8-19/10/2019, Researcher Ms. Thanh Huyen Tran from CEFD has attended two events: International Expert Seminar on Water Use - Waste and Wastewater Technologies organized by University of Siegen and IFAT2019 International Fair on Water and Wastewater technologies organized by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Germany. This activity belongs to the German Alumni Programme and DAAD Alumni Programme which aim to connect all alumnis of the developing countries who have achieved DAAD scholarships and studied in Germany. This is a precious opportunity for all senior and junior experts in the fields of water, waste water and solid waste management to gather together for networking, fruitful discussions on the current situation of their home contries, knowledge exchange and experience sharing. Ms. Huyen Tran is one of 3 representatives of Vietnam, together with other experts from Nepal, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Bangladesh to bring the voice to the seminar and the IFAT 2019.

The international expert seminar took place in the first week from 9-15/10/2019 in Kochi, India with presentations from all invited experts. Through the seminar, all experts have introduced current water-related issues in their countries followed by very dynamical and constructive discussions. Ms. Thanh Huyen Tran from CEFD had presented on her current work in cleaner production and energy efficiency solutions for beer industry and its wastewater treatment.

Ms. Sarita Shrestha, Water Supply Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Engineer Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Fund Development Board (RWSSFDB) from Nepal with the presentation on “Sustainable Management of Rural Water Supply Schemes Affected by April 2015 Earthquake in Nepal”
Prof.Dr. Chaudhary, Professor and Chairman Kurukshetra University Department of Geophysics, Kurukshetra Universityfrom India with the talk on “Use of Geospatial Technology for Sustainable Use and Management of Water Resources in Haryana State, India”
Ms. Nguyen Thuy Ha from World Bank with a talk on her project on “Results-based Scaling up Rural Sanitation and Water Supply Program”
Followed the presentations, the experts had opportunity to work together in group on a master planning game “IWRM – master plan for a touristic region” and presented the results to other groups.
Within the programme, all alumni experts had an excursion to the centralized water treatment plant of Kochi city to understand the current technologies that the city is using.
The second part of the Alumni Programme was to attend the IFAT India on Water, Waste and Wastewater Technologies in Mumbai. This fair aimed to connect scientific experts to enterprises working in water technologies to provide the demands from the end-user perspectives. Within the framework of the fair, the alumni experts also spoke on their career paths and how they got their way to water management field. This event was also to support and encourage young professionals, students from universities to have insights in current water-related issues and to be innovative in water solutions.
